The Death Angel, as I've named it, is my first official gouache painting. It's mostly gouache, but I used a few markers and paint markers to finish it off. It's still one of my favorites. I've failed at painting so it was exciting to get this one to turn out so well. I can't remember what the inspiration was, but I did this for the Rogue Art Community Monthly challenge that had set criteria. The red background was a bit of an accident and turned out better once I digitally edited the image for the show. The angel faces away from us since they are looking at something in the distance (as I imagine). The ripped cloak/robe helps compliment the scythe, since I imagine it isn't easy work to be an angel of death. I had a bit of trouble catching the highlights and drawing the folds in the cloak/robe. Same with the golden wings. I had picked up a technique earlier that month to use slightly different colors to create the shadows and textures. I don't think I was as successful as I hopped, but it still turned out great! The black scythe has a strip of dark sliver on the blade which I created using a silvery white ink.
